Contemplating the term "Race-Baiter" #DixonChallenge

So I recently posted this on my Facebook page and I've spent the past day or so deleting trolls.  Apparently the Eric Harris situation has really got some folks fired up (seriously, how does a suspect who's running/fleeing = dangerous?  Last time I checked, if someone's back is turned towards you, they're not a threat).

But anyways, in-between deletions, I've been keeping tabs on Dixon D. White, the self-professed "redneck" who is trying to start a movement about white racial responsibility.

Unsurprisingly, he's amassed an army of stalker-ish haters pretty much overnight, and while I have no intention of linking to their filth, I have noticed their repeated use of the terms "self-hating" and "race-baiter" when referencing Dixon.

The "race-baiter" term in particular caught my attention because it immediately made me think of the phrase "stirrin' up the niggras."  In this case, however, POC technically aren't the "niggras"; thanks to Dixon, white people are uploading videos talking about their personal experiences with white racism.  He's got them fired up, outing their towns, their families, their friends, sharing all sorts of links, and in short, talking about all the things Good White People aren't supposed to talk about.

  1. The hardest thing for any alcoholic to do is to come to terms with their alcoholism. To stand up and tell the world, “I admit it: I’m an alcoholic and I’m ready to take full responsibility for my addiction.” Hence the hardest thing for any white person to do, is to come to terms with their 400 year-old Addiction to Privilege. To stand up and in one loud voice proclaim, “I admit it: I’m a Racist and I’m ready to take full responsibility for my pathology .”

I have a choice: I can be white—that is, I can refuse to challenge white supremacy or centrality—or I can be a human being. I can rest comfortably in the privileges that come with being white, or I can struggle to be fully human.” Robert Jensen

The problem is, why give up something that has benefited you for over 400 years? I would imagine it’s hard to acknowledge your antipathy without feeling a profound sense of loss. Treating Poc as fully human agents (With all rights and privileges appertaining thereto), necessitates you ceding power: renouncing this sense of entitlement that has brought you comfort for so long.

“…What remains obscured is the distinctly uncivilized nature that Europeans and European Americans exhibited during their barbarous conquest of much of the world. The inherently fragile sense of white self-importance that emerges from that history is at the core of white fears—at some level, we all know that the truth of the depravity of white supremacy belies claims of white superiority.” What White People Fear: By Robert Jensen

As I’ve pointed out: The Matrix (Racism) is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, Politicians, Teachers, Soccer moms and Policemen (People of privilege). The very souls of the people we are trying to save (Convert). But until we do, these (White) people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged (Surrender their privilege). And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system (De Facto White Supremacy) that they will fight to protect it. (Pull out the confederate flag and cry havoc).

Change must come from whites. If there is to be any healing, if there is to be any hope for change; it must come from those in power. Racism… is a white problem. While I would agree in the need for these uplifting stories, when it comes to the Borg: you can’t take a few out, you must affect the entire cube.

While I agree that racism is a white problem and they do need to change, I disagree with the above statement because power is fickle; it moves from person to person, regime to regime. One rightly-timed revolution can collapse an entire empire.

So what POC need to remember is that 1) no waiting for white folks, otherwise we'll be waiting forever, and the bodies of brown people will continue to pile up in the interim 2) power can be taken, and we need to come at this problem from that angle.

I'll always stand by what Tim Wise said about the fact POC will liberate ourselves from white supremacy. Every day more brown people reach out to each other not just nationally, but globally. Every day, more of us are getting fed up. Every day, more of us realize our strength, individually and collectively. The momentum will continue to build, the conversations will go on, and progress will be achieved come hell or high water.

We're already being slaughtered. We've already endured hundreds of years of oppression. We've got little else to lose. To get free or die trying are perfectly good options to me.

      I agree.

    1. Dixon D. White’s interview should air on Every Media Outlet as often as the Eric Harris slaying on CNN. As often as Walter Scott’s execution on MSNBC. In other words, all-day-long. Every word—every point he makes, should be dissected by a panel of experts/activists (picked up by other affiliates) and aired even more so, until whites see it in their sleep. Brought to an end only when Congress passes a law to do so.

White was raised in rural Tennessee, the product of a white mother and Cuban father—with whom he did not have a lot of contact. In his now popular YouTube videos, White speaks about how he grew up in a white supremacist environment, and how that shaped his views until he was about 18 years old and headed off to college. It was his college experience, which included a black roommate, that changed his views about black people, and he’s since called himself an anti-racist writer and speaker.

Just as I thought, because he sounded much too articulate to represent your stereotypical redneck. He broke his views down much too succinctly to mirror your average in-bred Billy-Bob.

I use a pseudonym simply because of the hate. That’s the No. 1 reason, just trying to avoid negative attention.

The fact that he has a White Mother and a Commi Cuban Father won’t help his notoriety much, such pedigree will only draw more bile from revilers. I applaud his bravery though.

  3. Wow..I didn't know if I was in church or listening to Dixon's YT clip..lol1 Anyways, what a wonderful speech he made on it and I'm hoping that he makes more of them.

I don't care if Dixon would have been White, Latino, Black etc....anytime you speak up against racism and you challenge White society for it,they will get angry about it. As the saying goes "A hit dog will holler" and to me , if they are as " innocent " as they want to world to see them as ,why react negatively to him? You just implied guilt right there.

I'm curious to see just how many White people will jump on board with Dixon's challenge. Though I would love for him to be successful in his quest for more White people to jump on this, I just don't see too many of them doing it and if they do, they will be the ones to tell him to have a seat. We've been asking them to do since birth to no avail. The truth can be right in front of their faces and they'll still deny the truth. If a lot of whites did what Dixon did, then maybe we could find a piece of mind, but until they are willing to do such, change will not happen..at least no in this century.
