The Bar Loves Alfred Enoch

Like you didn't see this coming.

Alfred Enoch is a British actor of Afro-Brazilian descent. Before he landed the role of Wesley Gibbins on the hit show How to Get Away with Murder, he was best known for portraying Dean Thomas in the Harry Potter films, and the Bloody Guardsman on Sherlock.

He also has quite the following on Tumblr, needless to say.

Although he uses a very convincing American accent on HTGAWM, I'm really digging his role of Wes Gibbins, the underdog who starts law school two days after being taken off the wait list.  In addition to that humiliation, he has the misfortune to walk in on his professor (Viola Davis as Annalise Keating) getting some special attention from her lover.

Did I mention he's part of an overarching plotline in which he and his fellow students kill her husband?  It's like dude just can't catch a break this semester.

Enoch plays Wes as charming, boyish, highly observant, and somewhat adorkable.  He's just very disarming.  However, after only the second episode, I think we may have gotten a peak of a determined ruthless streak buried beneath that fidgety smile.

To be honest, I haven't followed Enoch's career all that strictly, but now that he's made my radar I'm going to be paying very close attention to all this dark caramel goodness.  HTGAWM, for now, appears to be a golden show, willing to push boundaries, press buttons, and launch careers.  I've got high hopes for this man.

  1. Caramel Goodness.. you were right about.

Anyways, I'm enjoying his character , too. I'm still tripping about over the fact that all of these kids are attending law school but also contributed in the murder of her husband.. Wow! So far, HTGAWM seems like a good show. I'm hoping that their acting careers will give him a major boost.

  2. I'm really enjoying the show, as well; I hope we get to see more PoC+PoC relationships though, rather than only white + PoC.

  3. I'm really enjoying this show too, and the cast seems to be made of a patchwork of actors from recent high profile shows. The 2 white dudes in the chosen group are from 'Orange is the New Black' and 'Twisted'.

  4. Sheesh, I've certainly been absent long enough. Let's fix that (and my misspelled name, while we're at it)!

Only seen the first episode of this so far, but I'm interested already. Totally didn't realize Enoch played Dean Thomas (for I am the worst Potter fan), so that's just made me more excited to see what the guy does next.

  5. I'm also enjoying his dark caramel goodness. Does anyone else think he looks like the Last Dragon Bruce Leeroy?

    1. Now there's a name I ain't heard in many a moon.

  6. Afro-Brazilian...At first I thought he was Caribbean but I wasn't far from it. I guess I'm the odd one who finds his eyes a bit weird? Or maybe it's something his gaze. But I like his character, though I dislike that he takes risks for a girl he barely knows, and yes his body is fine ^^
