Open Mic Night: Michael Dunn

  1. Convicted on three counts of second degree murder and firing a weapon=at least 60 years. Mistrial on first degree murder charges. Prosecution attorney seeking retrial of first degree murder charge. Plain English he is charged with shooting at the three other people in the car, but no shooting/killing Davis.

  2. That man should have been charged with Ist degree murder. Don't get me wrong, it's better than what GZ should have gotten (or worse), but its almost like the state of Florida is trying to keep this punk from more serious charges. Dunn shot in Jordan's SUV and no weapon was found in it. How definitive is that. Then again, I remembered those lessons I was taught..White can do things that POCs can't get away with. White society can kill you but you can't kill them.

I'm glad that the prosecution is retrying Dunn. This is a cold hearted racist who ,by Jordan Davis lawyer's word cried for his dog but not for Jordan.Yep!this man needs to be in jail for life..without parole.

    1. He will be in jail for life unless he lives past 100. He is 47 now and according to the news will get at least 60 years for the charges he was convicted of. Not a lot of consolation to Davis's family, but better than what the Martin family got.

    3. I think you mean "found guilty of"...he was charged with it, but that was the charge the jury couldn't agree upon even though he went to his truck, got a gun, and fired it into a car full of kids.
That only becomes something other than murder when it'a white mean doing it to a black child (or adult).
If my black tail fired a gun at a car load of obnoxious white kids, we know where I'd wind up.
He is going to jaile, but once again, a white man murders a black person and the courts show that being a racist who fears all black skin gives you just cause to start shooting people.
I mean, in the Jonathan Terrell case, did anyone listen to that white woman when she called the cops b/c he knocked on her door. Knocked on her door.
YOu'd have thought she saw Satan standing on her doorstep the way she was carrying on. Yet he didn't barge into her home when she opened the door. He didn't chase her or attack her. Nope, she acted like her life was in danger b/c a black man touched her damn doorbell. Ditto with Renisha McBride.

  3. Let me preface my comments by quoting from the National Security Strategy of the United States, published on September 17, 2002:

“The greater the threat, the greater is the risk of inaction – and the more compelling the case for taking anticipatory action to defend ourselves, even if uncertainty remains as to the time and place of the enemy’s attack. There are few greater threats than a terrorist attack with WMD. To forestall or prevent such hostile acts by our adversaries, the United States will, if necessary, act preemptively in exercising our inherent right of self-defense. The United States will not resort to force in all cases to preempt emerging threats.”

    Further down:
“Our preference is that nonmilitary actions succeed. And no country should ever use preemption as a pretext for aggression.”

Yet that’s just what we did. The very talking point that led up to the war on Iraq was this: “America must not ignore the threat gathering against us. Facing clear evidence of peril, We Cannot Wait for The Final Proof, the smoking gun that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud.”

Whether the threat was real or imagined the Bush Doctrine provoked this nation to tender a preemptive war simply because Bush presumed (by capricious intelligence) a nation of color contemplated aggression against us. Projecting the white man’s fear of color onto the racial other thousands of miles away. The same Privileged Fear appears to apply to Michael Dunn, for he needs no empirical evidence to justify his killing of unarmed black males, only the oblique portent derived solely from the claim that He Felt Threatened. Subsequently, one would only need a few well-disposed jurors to prevail in such cases for scores of white people feel much the same way. In other words, if I were a white person part of me might identify with the defendant’s xenophobia. The part of me that I dare not own may well share in his trepidation of black youth, therefore this defendant’s social malaise (in my white eyes) need not be deemed racist -as many in the media purport- for it would coalesce with my own biases; propagating empathy for him at the very heart of my whiteness. Hence I could find it difficult to fault his actions for I in all likelihood would do the exact same thing. Course this conflicts with a commonly held view that white people hold no bias when sitting on juries, nor are they clouded by emotion, for they’re much too rational for that.

As I see it, the task was for the majority white jurors (always by design as many whites feel being in the majority is God-Ordained) to convince the emotionally compromised jurors of color that this man reacted to a clear and present danger and in no way should his actions be construed as premeditated murder, therefore let us opt for the lesser charge. So what we end up with is Some Justice, but sadly not enough. What truly disturbs me is this: If a white man can get away with killing an innocent black child for playing music too loudly, then practically every person of color has a target on their back. Now if this man had confronted a car full of White Teens blasting let’s say, Rick Ross’ God Forgives, I Don't, the only accepted outcome would be a shouting match between a group of privileged whites. I dare say no gun would have been drawn, but there would have been a lot of shoving- shouting and finger pointing.

  4. Loved the comment by one poster on the Huffingtonpost.

    Mimi M. (straykat):
"So he was found (sic) guility of almost killing some kids, but not guilty of murdering the kid he killed.
    Brilliant."

And once again, Angela Corey can throw Marissa Alexander under the jail for firing a warning shot through the roof of her home to defense herself and her children, but can't get convictions on two white men who killed Black children. ~ Transgriot

In what universe was this verdict even supposed to make sense?
