Black and White according to Wikipedia

While researching a Korean horror flick, I stumbled across this:
White is the color of fresh milk and snow.[1][2] It is the color produced by the reflection, transmission or emission of all wavelengths of visible light, without absorption.[3]

As a symbol, white is the opposite of black, and often represents light in contrast with darkness. According to surveys in Europe and the United States, white is the color most often associated with innocence, perfection, the good, honesty, cleanliness, the beginning, the new, neutrality, lightness, and exactitude.[4]
And this:
Black is the color of coal, ebony, and of outer space. It is the darkest color, the result of the absence of or complete absorption of light. It is the opposite of white and often represents darkness in contrast with light.[1]

Black was one of the first colors used by artists in neolithic cave paintings. In the Roman Empire, it became the color of mourning, and over the centuries it was frequently associated with death, evil, witches and magic. In the 14th century, it began to be worn by royalty, the clergy, judges and government officials in much of Europe. It became the color worn by English romantic poets, businessmen and statesmen in the 19th century, and a high fashion color in the 20th century.

In the Western World today, it is the color most commonly associated with mourning, the end, secrets, magic, power, violence, evil, and elegance.[2]

In other places, white is the color of death and mourning. Don't wear it unless you want to attract ghosts and shit, and purify yourself first or they'll follow you home. Black is related to the traditional color of indigo and is treasured. Blue-black jade is some of the finest out there... Black is unaffected by tempestuous emotions and base desires, it is the color of the center of our being. Something like that. It's been awhile. In my mom's words: "white gets dirty, figure it out for yourself."

  2. White is the absence of color, completely blank without any depth. Any stain is permanently seen. It is the color of pure hatred, destructive and oppressive without conscience. It is the color of coldness like snow, freezing.

Black is the presence of all colors, deep like the vastness of space. It is the color of fear in the eyes of evil, menacing to those who wish to destroy. It is the color to comfort warmth, so warm to the touch.

  3. Also, while black cats are considered a sign of bad luck in America, they are considered a sign of good luck in Japan.

  4. On the one hand, Wikipedia comes clean and lets the reader know up front that these are, essentially, white people's perceptions. So it doesn't try to pass this off as "universal."

On the other hand, why aren't other people's perceptions also included in the introductions?

  5. Black is the color of limitless, infinity, the universe. White is the color of nothingness, blank. Black absorbs all color and absorbs warmth. White is washed out by any color and deflects warmth.
