The Bar Pours a Sip for Malcolm Shabazz

RIP Malcolm Lateef Shabazz (October 8, 1984 – May 9, 2013)
Show of hands: how many of you genuinely believe Malcolm X's grandson simply died in a robbery attempt?

  4. A big part of me says that there's more to it. It seems too extreme to be considered a mere robbery and murder.

  5. I don't know enough about him to say whether people wanted him dead. It's possible he had a rather ordinary but unfortunate end. It's also possible someone axed him.

  6. Here's what makes me raise an eyebrow.

The man was an activist, which most sources are willing to acknowledge. Yet most sources prefer to focus on his troubled childhood.

And notice a difference: When Coretta Scott King died, four Presidents attended her funeral. When Betty Shabazz died, four Mayors and Governor stopped by.

    Hm.

  7. From SoB's tumblr it seems he was beaten to death by some guys who were waiters in a nightclub. I see what you mean, Ankh. But that was for Betty's husband. Is someone showing up to his grandson's funeral? In both cases we can acknowledge that there were government orders to let both Malcolm and MLK bite the dust. I think it depends on the grandson's level of activism but as of now I see his death as somewhat arbitrary but I would guess there is racial bias implied.
