The Bar Pours a Sip for Chris Kelly

Chris Smith & Chris Kelly
Damn, 'yall.
Kelly's mother, Donna Kelly Pratte, and So So Def released a joint statement Wednesday night:

“It is with deep sadness that we announce that our beloved Chris Kelly has passed away on May 1. To millions of fans worldwide, he was the trendsetting, backwards pants-wearing one-half of Kris Kross who loved making music. But to us, he was just Chris – the kind, generous and fun-loving life of the party. Though he was only with us a short time, we feel blessed to have been able to share some incredible moments with him. His legacy will live on through his music, and we will forever love him.” (Source)

  1. If there was age limits for death, I would say that Chris the darker one)was too young for death. Now a continuous assurance for a reunion cannot be revived.

  2. I saw them in concert back in 1993. Only 1 year older than me, so sad.

  3. I'm upset by how many people seem to think drugs are a good way to party. I remember hearing he'd had cancer so had thought it was related to that. Not happy to hear about another former child star dying of an overdose.
The lead singer of Hi-Five met the same fate. I dislike looking at those cute little faces and thinking about what the last 20 years might have been like for him.

      So it wasn't just me!

    2. He came and said he had alopecia not cancer. Back in 2009 people started saying he had cancer because they saw bald spots on his head.

    3. Thanks for the clarification. I heard the cancer talk but never saw the correction.

  4. I remember a former classmate of mine wearing her pants backwards when Kriss Kross came out. I didn't think anyone I knew would do that, but I was wrong. I don't blame her. This duo was influential whether you were young or old. Families could party to this song and some others that they did.
