The Angel Who Blew Up Boston

Um...is it just me???
Dzhokhar's father would not accept Friday that his younger son was involved in the crimes he is said to have carried out. Anzor Tsarnaev told the Associated Press his son was a smart and accomplished young man. Speaking from Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, he said: "My son is a true angel. Dzhokhar is a second-year medical student in the US. He is such an intelligent boy. We expected him to come on holidays here." (Source)
By now some of you have read about the Tsarnaev brothers who allegedly blew up Boston.  The older brother, Tamerlan, died in a shoot out with the cops last night.  And the younger brother, Dzhokhar, is 19 and on the run.

A medical student with lots of a friends and a lot of all-American tendencies, apparently Dzhokhar's alleged participation has, ahem, "certain" people confounded.  They had no clue he could or would ever do such a thing, and there was absolutely nothing which ever tipped them off.

Mm-hm.

His brother was apparently a friendless Muslim radical who somehow corrupted his angelic brother into - quite casually - blowing a bunch of people up.

Mm-hm.

And while the ambiguous "dark-skinned" community breathes a quick sigh of relief, "certain" people remained shocked and appalled.
Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Dzhokar Tsarnaev are "white" by definition. Nell Painter's great book A History of White People details how the very notion of Whiteness was manufactured from the myth of an idealized "Caucasian" past and people. Chechnya is quite literally in the Caucuses. However, because Whiteness is a historically contingent and manufactured identity, the Chechens, along with other Southern and Eastern Europeans, are among the most recent inductees as full members in the "white" race. Moreover, in the United States, Chechens did not "earn" their full Whiteness until the middle part of the 20th century.

I joked on Twitter that Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Dzhokar Tsarnaev are putting the status of Chechens as full members of the "white race" in jeopardy. I was only half-kidding. Conservatives and others are already trying to reconcile how Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Dzhokar Tsarnaev can be Muslim, "white," "terrorists," American, and from Chechnya.

*nods* Mm-hm.

How's the saying go? Oh, yeah..."Lather, rinse, and repeat."

  1. I knew you were going to hit this...thank you.
You have to love how white boys can be psycho killers in the most gruesome way and they are still innocent white snowflake angels, but yeah, Trayvon Martin becomes a superthug who had it coming for "getting himself murdered."

I'm frankly surprised they killed the older brother. You know they love to all but carry white killers in on a litter.

He's the Muslim, remember? They shot him, killed him, case closed - his name's hardly mentioned anymore.

But the "angel" is still alive, and the fact that a poor, sweet, intelligent boy could do such a thing is a tragedy.

  2. It didn't take much to incite white Americans to violence against a 'dark-skinned man', in the meantime.

    1. Alas, the meantime is not over. Conservative whites are no doubt trying to convince themselves that a Chechen from the Caucus Mountains isn't really Caucasian. So any day now, I expect Dzhokhar to get demoted to Dark-Skinned Status. And when that happens....

    2. Soon, he'll be just as black as a bruh from Decatur.

But the father? Child, please. I read somewhere that he said that if his son gets killed, there'll be hell to pay. Imma need for that man to sit on a swivel dick, rotate, and ride that shit straight to hell so he can be reunited with his family.

    3. Totally agree. And the fact that both brothers are from immigrant families and have relatives with "strange" English accents. Also, notice how every friend that they've interviewed in person (at least on CNN) has been a PoC.

  3. Oh, and you know that a lot of white (Americans) cannot wrap their heads around the fact that these guys are white and Muslim, but of course they'll figure out a way to make it about brown people if you give them enough time...
I'll go ahead and be non-PC and say that everyone time stuff goes down, I'm saying under my breath "please let them be white, please let them be white"...
Granted, white privilege means that white men will never be seen a the menace to society that man of them are, but yeah, one less time I have to hear what a savage people who look like me are...

Here's the thing...supposedly Dzhokhar - the angel? - wasn't a Muslim, just his brother. But before the day is done, he'll be branded as some crazed (dark-skinned) Jihadist.

I'll go ahead and be non-PC and say that everyone time stuff goes down, I'm saying under my breath "please let them be white, please let them be white"...

LOL...in situations like this, for some reason, I don't hope they're white, 'cause I already know they're white. That's why there's such a rush to say "dark-skinned suspect".

    1. Ramzan Kadyrov, the strongman Russian President Vladimir Putin installed to restore calm in Chechnya, reacted to the news with irritation. “We are accustomed to everything that goes wrong in the world being associated with Chechens,” he said, according to government-owned RIA Novosti news agency. “But accusations are not proof yet that these people were involved. In any case, they were brought up in America. This is their education.”

    2. Give the uncle credit. He referred to one of them as being a "loser". He didn't try to make them something that they weren't. The aunt on the other hand felt that they were being set up by the cops. ..oh god please!

    3. That's the thing about guys like these.

Because of Whiteness, there will always be hordes of folks crying and shaking their heads in denial, talking about "nice guys", "quiet guys," and "angels." They did the same thing with Adam Lanza...until his former babysitter insisted on speaking up.

'Cause if you probe long enough, there's always at least one relative or neighbor or someone close to the family who says, "Yeah. He would totally do something like that. I am not at all surprised he did."

  5. I find this whole thing to be ironic.

Just the other day news outlets like CNN and Fox was sooooo sure that that a dark skinned man or Saudi did thi,but it turned out to be Chechens.

I was reading the Bostonherald and looking at some of the comments made about this story. Some of the folks were focused on the death and recovery of the runners, but it seemed that the majority was about not accepting really. Although they're White, most of these tried to make excuses. Oh,some of them were angry because of White folks being blamed for it.They blamed the Democratic party and Obama. Now that we're all certain who bombed the Marathon, now they are trying to throw it off once again but saying "They're Russian" or "They're Muslim". The readers are trying not to accept who did and pretending that they aren't White (I guess because the oldest brother was olive complexioned.)

More than likely, they weren't expecting them to be White and Muslim. All of this time, law enforcement was focusing their eyes on all POCs . Although media described one of the guys a" dark skinned man" I understood why African Americans blasted John King for his reporting. To me, being a dark skinned man could have been any minority or White ethics. They have basically put all of us in a quagmire for doing it. One Moroccan high school life may be ruined because of what they did.

I agree with the uncle about one thing about this bombing it does ruin the Chechen community doing what his nephews did and with most of them being Muslim like they were, they may be come a new punching bag for law enforcement. Then again, I wonder will they be treated the same vile way as some Arab/Asian Muslims are?..not that I would want that.. Never...but I wonder. Let's face it:most people was looking for POC Muslims to do that.Nobody expected for two Chechen guys to do it.

I feel for the city of Boston. I hope that they will heal. Really , this racial profiling of folks is pathetic ...

PS..Oh, my heart also go out to the people of West, Texas and gneiss explosion that took place at the fertilizer factory.

    1. Here's the thing. They keep throwing around the terrorism word and I feel as if since 9/11, that is the go-to word anytime a Muslim or brown or brownish person does something.
These guys are killers but until you prove that they did this in the name of some ideology they aren't terrorists, and I really think they fall into the angry white guy category more so scary Muslim.
I feel as if a white boy guns down a room full of people at least twice a year so the collective amnesia every time a new white boy or white boys set it off is mind blowing.
I don't care if it's a bomb or a gun. I'm kind of like, stop calling killers terrorist just b/c they aren't white and Christian.
Of course, their white cards seem to have been revoked and as usual the white American Christian killers are mentally ill while these guys are "terrorists."
And on a side note, maybe we should talk about all of the posturing about gun control every time a white boy sets it off even though none of the white boys who have used guns to kill people would have been stopped by these proposed laws. I don't like guns, have never touched a gun, and wish Americans were not so in love with them, but yeah, rich white folks won't be affected by any of the supposed rules.
I'm really annoyed as a non-Muslim how quickly the discussion have degenerated into a castigation of Islam.

  7. The funny thing is that I was 99.9% sure that it would be a white male.
Why, you ask? Well that's an excellent question; hmmm by using my detective skills that's sharpened over the years, the facts pointed to a while male between the ages of 18-30 because that's usual the time when they start acting up.
While on YouTube, someone had the comment that said " watch it be a white male in his late teens to early thirties " and I so wanted to link that comment but alas I couldn't BUT I did like it.

I wonder when white America will wake up and realize that isn't not POC that they should be wary of But their own.

    1. With these conversations, there's always that unspoken question-and-answer portion which white people really don't want to broach.

Whenever they bring up how "good" these guys are and how they can't understand why they would gun down a bunch of people or bomb a building, what they're really asking is, "Why? With all the privilege and preference we've given you, with all the steps we've taken to make sure your future and social standing are protected, why would you do something like this?"

They don't want to ask that question, because they already know the answer.

"It is because of that very same preference and privilege you've shown me that I did this, that I knew could I do this, that I wanted to do this."

    2. Yep.

The more I read about what law enforcement and the GOP want to do with guy,the more diabolical they sound.Don't get me wrong this boy deserve punishment, but some of these guys are trying to tell Obama that the Miranda Rights process doesn't apply to Dzochar, that there is a "loophole" around it and that he should be tried in a mlitary court.

I have never liked how the GOP talks, but with Dzochar, its even more concerning. If they won't give read his rights to him, then we may as well be a dictatorship(which wouldn't be a total lie in the states these days).Whether or not the GOP or the rest of the world hates him, it's about being right. I hope that Obama will do the right thing for Dzochar. To deny him his right would be so wrong.. and make Obama look bad.. which is what the GOP wants more than anything. If they continue to violate his rights, just imagine how much worse it will be for non Christian minorities when they feel the power to continue to violate ours.

  10. I'd been keeping a close eye on this story since the day the bombings happened. Being sick for most of the week meant I had the chance to sit in at a few online forums dedicated to it and keep half an eye on the media coverage. It was interesting to watch the sheer volume of misinformation that was thrown around as fact in both spheres. The media was just so wrong about so many things I don't even want to go into. Online, well... it was a mixed bag. After the pictures were released, after one of the bomb victims woke up and ID'd the suspects placing the bags, after the MIT officer was shot and dying, after the car jacking and video of the younger bro at a gas station that matched the video and pictures from the marathon, after the chase and shoot-out with grenades and IEDs with reports from posters that lived right on the street and were watching it happen out their windows... even then there were STILL morons popping in asking if we were use it was them? What if it wasn't? What about that running Saudi guy(long since already stated by the FBI to be a -witness-, not considered a suspect) or some other unrelated people?
It was maddening how often this was happening, like they were so sure they knew who did it and didn't want to admit they were wrong. Because clearly the only important thing during a mass-murder like this is being right about who did it. And of course it had to be a brown person. It couldn't possibly be someone with pale skin, oh no, that would mean that maybe bad guys aren't just the scary 'others'. That can't be true, that would just be frightening. *sigh*

And on top of the innocent brown people who were attacked in the aftermath, there's at least one man (Sunil Tripathi) still missing and he had been erroneously identified as a suspect. I hope some over-eager 'Murikkka fanatic didn't cross paths with him.

      Delete
    2. I heard of at least two people physically attacked in separate incidents, a man and a woman. There's probably more who have been verbally attacked or treated terribly that we won't ever hear about.
And poor Sunil Tripathi. There were so many who swore he was one of the bombers. They were so sure of it, they were sending hatemail to the family to the point were the facebook page set up for his disappearance had to be disabled.
It was disgracefully, disgusting, and completely unnecessary. I hope he's found safely, I really worry for him.

      Delete
    3. I really, really feel for the Tripathi family; Sunil seems like such a sweet and loving kid. I hope he is safe. Also, who the fuck fakes their own disappearance, has family go on national television seeking information, involves the FBI for over a month, has posters with their photograph and description all over the region, AND THEN carries out a bomb blast? That is the stupidest shit I have ever heard.

  11. Huh white folks aren't using the mental illness defense this time. I'm actually shocked.

And is it me or is CNN becoming more dangerous than Fox News. That Prop 8 nonsense they erroneously manufactured caused blacks and Latinos to be harassed and attacked by whites gay and straight alike.

And now their report about a brown skinned person behind the attacks helped contribute to attacks against Muslims.

Remember how we joked that Obama's election has caused white folks to lose their damn minds.....more than normal,

I did not realize how right we were.

    1. Well, I think that as was mentioned, he's being de-whitefied thanks to being associated with Islam (so if it was his brother who was practicing Islam he's now Muslim by proxy).
And it also sets them up to violate his Constitutional and Civil Rights b/c you know, Muslims or suspected Muslims aren't protected by the Constitution even if they are citizens.
Sane, non-racist people should be disturbed that people are actively calling for his Miranda rights to be revoked and for him to be declared an enemy combatant. I'm sorry, you aren't a terrorist just b/c you might be Muslim and break the law. We need to get to a place where people who say that are laughed out of town. I do not even know how people say that without smoking something first.
I'm tired of the term terrorist being thrown at brownish, or non-Christian people. Until they prove otherwise, he's a criminal and a killer, and the people we have on Guantanamo illegally, as we violate the Geneva convention are bad enough (b/c you know they will cry to high heaven if Americans don't get treated with kid gloves even when they are out of line or committing crimes in other countries), but yeah, having people who think you can just pick and choose which Americans actually have rights is not a place I want to return to as a Black person.
Hell, we get our rights violated as a matter of course anyway (you know, cops gun down unarmed black people, plant fake evidence to cover their tracks, never face punishment) so I will fight hard for anyone else b/c if they decide they can do it to them, they'll keep doing it to us.

B/c you know, if we want to talk about following international laws then I think we should send Amanda Knox back to Italy.
