For the Nerds Only: Gaya's Astronomy

I've been dabbling in fanfiction over in the Vault of Dark & Twisty (helps to keep the creative juices going).  As I wrap up my latest tale of a certain Romulan Tal'Shiar operative, I've decided I'm going to stick around in the Trek universe for a while longer.

Before I continue, peep what I've been working on.

To match names to faces, check out the Dramatis Personae.

I don't typically advertise fanfiction here this way, but this one's special.  A while back, when I talked about rewatching old Grey's Anatomy posts, a commenter said the show was nice and all, but we didn't get to see the female characters (and there were far too few) get to indulge flirty adventures like their white counterparts.  I could see exactly where she was coming from; it was like saying Black women don't date or flirt or have hot flings.  It's pretty annoying when shows with supposedly "diverse" casts do this.  Star Trek did it too.

So Gaya's Astronomy will have more than its fair share of POC, both regular and recurring, and will be a playful indulgence to help you escape for an afternoon every so often.  I plan to start posting this week.

    1. You don't think I've gone totally overboard on this one?

    2. Quite the contrary, given the previous musings/discussions we've had on a POC version of DS9/TNG, said previous musings laid the groundwork for this story.

  2. I think this is an excellent, excellent idea. I mean, if you're this inspired, you should see it through. I know dick about Grey's Anatomy, but I am fascinated to see what you do with this. Roll, Ankh, roll!

    Also, what Denny said.

    1. This is more of a Star Trek story, with some influence from Grey's Anatomy, but if readers don't know anything about Grey's Anatomy, they'll still be good to go.

  3. Yes! You should for sure keep going with this!

How crazy is this timing tho. I'd been eyeing Grey's Anatomy on my Netflix queue for about 6 months having never seen the show before. I finally clicked play couple two three weeks ago and am well into season 2 - completely absorbed.

So for that and coming from one die hard Trekkie who always thought (all)the Star Trek series should have had an infusion of more color: Go K GO!!
