Vamp Diaries: The fail you see coming from miles away

If you haven't seen this week's ep of TVD, here's the perfect recap.

Let me get the fails out of the way:

1) Fans were right to be upset about the burgeoning Jamie/Bonnie romance.  Jamie (portrayed by Robert Ri'Chard) is delectably handsome as ever, but since he and Bonnie consider the same woman as "mom", putting them together is weird and creepy and wrong in so many other ways.

2) Unable to control her new vampire instincts, Abby attacks Jamie.  Racked with guilt, she decides to abandon both kids this time, and gives Caroline the unhappy burden of announcing it.  So it looks like Persia White is leaving the show which, let's be honest, doesn't come as a surprise.  Can't have more than two living Negroes at a time on the show, and once it appeared that Jamie was going to appear in more eps, someone had to go.

3) Let's recap.  Bonnie lost her grandmother and mother because of Elena and the two vampire brothers obsessing over her.  In the ep before last, Bonnie made it clear she didn't want to see or speak to Elena.  Yet Elena brazenly calls her up and asks to do a magical favor to fix yet another white character's mess.  The ep ends with Bonnie forgiving Elena with a smile - are you shittin' me?!??

4) Someone, please answer me this: what the fuck is wrong with the women on this show?  Why are they all - regardless of age - simpering, pathetic emo teenagers incapable of growing the fuck up?  And why do the writers - who I'm guessing are mostly female - keep characterizing them this way?

Let's go down the list of the pathetic:

Rebekah - If I was a 1000 years old, going to high school, dating boys (not men), and self-esteem issues would be the least of my concerns.  Fuck, they wouldn't even be on the list.  You're supposed to start out-growing this shit in your mid-twenties.  You're telling me that after 1000 years, a woman is still going to be jealous of other girls (not women), she's still going to be whiny and insecure, and she's still going to open her legs to a man just to get back at another woman?  Is that what you're telling me?

Sage - This worthless waste of space has been pining over the same uninterested man for the last 900 years, and in nine whole centuries she never thought to gain a clue.  Really?  Seriously?

Bonnie - Why hasn't she gone Dark Willow yet?  The fuck are we waiting for?  Does Joss Whedon need to step in and take over this show?  Because this shit right here is officially beyond pathetic.  WTF is she forgiving Elena for?  You're the reason my mom became a vampire (and is traumatized by the experience) yet you have the gall to call me up for a fucking favor?  Bitch, really?

Caroline - Once again, Caroline remains the single voice of reason.  And as usual, no one's listening.

Now, some other points:

1) Jeremy Gilbert had a cameo and it's about goddamn time.  I don't know which idiot writer/producer/whoever thought it was a good idea to take Steven R. McQueen off the show, but they fucked up royally and should be fired.  What...was he too good-looking?  Is that why he and Michael Trevino - the most watchable men on the entire show - are conveniently absent?  I'm sorry, were his acting skills so great that he just had to be written out?  Really?  So that boring, tacky, perpetually immature family of Original Vampires could take over?  Are we serious?

2) The end, which has Damon and Stefan regaining their resolve to take out the Original Vampires, gave me chills in the good way.  The sad thing about a show like TVD is that it could still be salvaged.  There are some elements to work with.  If you take out the bad, empty, unnecessary romances on the show (along with the mind-boggling racefail), you actually have a potential gold mine.  Ian Somerhalder is a great actor, after all.  He knows how to become someone different in each role, and he was being wasted on this show.  The Damon/Stefan relationship is potentially very interesting, more interesting the relationship they have with Elena.  In fact, Stefan seems less of a King Bland when interacting with his brother; Somerhalder somehow evokes some actual acting out of Wesley

3) Please let the Originals die in this season.  Klaus & Co. need to go.  They should've been ended back in Season 2; this bullshit dragged on way too long and we've lost some good folks along the way.  Grams should still be with us.  We should've seen Lucy more often.  Abby should still be human.  Jeremy shouldn't have gone anywhere.  In fact, everyone from the Dead Negroes list should still be walking.

4) Hat tip to the white fans of Bonnie; they came out in force this week when writer Julie Plec and actor Matt Davis showed their asses to the world.  Fans organized a TVD boycott this past week, and some came out with some excellent comments:
Jaime and Bonnie together would be totally inappropriate! Her mother raised him..meaning that Bonnie should consider him family. Elena has D&S&E pining over her, Caroline has Matt, Tyler & Klaus..who does Bonnie have? The first time someone showed interest in her on the show was back in S01 (Ben)..but then he kidnapped her and used her to perform the spell with her Grams who died because of it..then we had Luka who used her to get info about Elena and the whole moonstone situation..then he died..the last one was Jeremy who cheated on her with the ghost of his vampire ex who was the one who got her kidnapped in S01...Bonnie has done and sacrificed so much for everyone on this show and has never even got a proper thank you! She's never invited to any of the events even though she was the one who released Momma Original from the coffin and was helping her perform the ritual...Her mother was turned over a coin toss..and even then Elena had to cut into the scene with her stupid: 'How can I help?'. I'm so tired of the writers treating Bonnie and Matt like crap and making them collateral damage.

    long time lurker

lol, I have watch this show since the beginning, oh my at the race fail.
Don't forget, which I know its easy to with all the twists, Elena also had Damon hypnotize Jeremy to get him out of town, so add boyfriend removal to Elena's list of crimes. Even though I knew Bonnie would end up forgiving her, I feel like the writers could have given her more of a reason to, as well as more for wanting to help Alaric. I really don't like what they did to his character this season, I know anyone over 30 is mincemeat on a CW show, but I liked his character, and esp since Jenna died last season it would have been nice to have some kind of parental figure on the show.
The lore of VD confuses me, I don't really get how witches basically invented vampires, yet they are so easily killed by them, and will do their bidding aka Luka's sis for Klaus' hybrid ritual last season. It really doesn't make sense.

  2. This lady is nuts and racist. Even if Jaimie/Bonnie becomes a "thing" they're just going to kill Jaimie by the end of the season. Another dead negro added to the list. *roles eyes* I just can't with this series.

She should of been pricipal or a teacher in school, if you;re that old, you should be I donno something like Highlander. He became an art dealer. I mean if you are living a thousand years then you should have a greater education to teach humans. I mean it works better plot wise.

I mean (sorry if this derails) here's a better plot for the story:

Ok, you have a young vampire teen (no emo angst, ideally POC) who is a new student at school. He see s his teacher and noticed that somethings off. THen he finds outs that she's a vampire, but much older. So they bonded (not romantically). So the adventures starts when you have other vampires and witches causing trouble in the town.

So it's not that hard to make a series. heck you don;t even need Joss Weldon.

    1. But you see, they won't let that happen, at least not without romance. Even if there is no romance on the show, the white shippers would go stark crazy all over it, unless there's a much more attractive white male/female character to take the of the older vampire. And then, the PoC teen vamp will be ultimately ignored or the girl/boy that they're paired off with is hated on tremendously. Especially if they're not a white girl/guy.

True...That part of what of I call Washington/Roberts Effect.

Washington/Roberts Effect: Black actors can't be the white actors's love interest on movies or on TV. If so it causes a backlash.

Even if they do pick it up, it would be just a white teacher saving a black student.

Perferably it would be best if they are both POC and females.

      but back on topic.

      Vamp Diaries gives me Diarrhea

  4. I was wondering if you were going to post about this, first was not surprised about Abby but
    SPOILER

Abby will be back as Persia tweeted a pic of her and Ian on set, so we will see how that goes, but Im sure her coming back will still be underwhelming.

I dont understand how the writers even thought a Bonnie/Jamie paring would be a good idea. As well as Jamie's relationship with Abby, there is also the fact that Im sorry but he brings nothing to the storyline and once again it will leave Bonnie isolated from the other characters, Why cant Bonnie be hooked up with one of the main characters? I really liked Bonie/Jeremy but the writers were quick to ruin that, but still why not work on their relationship?

Also I agree with you, there is just way too many guest stars and they are taking way too much screen time, some of them have been on screen more than the main chracters. Can we please have Steven and Michael back.

Now onto the boycott, if anything this whole thing showed how the writer seems to have something against Bonnie and the Bonnie fans, I dont know if you have been following this but whenever fans ask something about Bonnie the writer always seems to be on the defensive yet when it comes to the other characters she is always willing to talk to the fans about them, hmmmm?

Persia will come back, film a bunch of scenes, and then find out later that her return happened off-screen.

And no. Jamie brings nothing to the show. Kinda like the Original Family - really didn't need them. Elijah was the most tolerable one, and he's gone.

  5. " Why hasn't she gone Dark Willow yet? The fuck are we waiting for? "

Because once she goes that route, she's going to be the big bad and when they kill her off, she's staying dead. remember K, black people aren't allowed to get angry or feel rage. We're supposed to RISE ABOVE.

You think Bonnie is hated now, she won't be viewed as a badass like Willow was when she went dark. If Bonnie goes dark, she's going to be met with the same hatred and disdain as Omarosa or Sherry Palmer no matter how justified she is.

To be honest though, I gotta say Rebekkah and Sage make perfect sense. In that they're immortal and they're still stuck on stupid. How many grown ass adults have we encountered who still have a juvenile mentality and they're in their 40 or 50s?

Don't even get me started on that Abby bullshit. The 3 or more Negroes goes back to that Dwayne McDuffie video. I think if anything, Jamie and Caroline had some serious chemistry. Those two would be a hot pair. Makes more sense than that Klaus and Caroline bullshit.

I'm feeling you Jeremy and Trevino. And I've been over the Originals.

THANK YOU!!!! And that's why I keep watching. For Bonnie and for this. Because the potential is there if you actually got a solid writer on this show who knew what he or she was doing.
