I was actually going to do a couple of other characters before this one, but because of my current "defend Asian America" kick, the character of Aimee Bradley got bumped to the front of the line.  I was mistaken to say Anna and Pearl were the only Asian characters on the show, but that's because I mistook the gorgeously luminous actress Tiya Sircar for African American.  She actually looks like a lot of African Americans, and East Africans too, but she's of East Indian descent.  A native Texan, she speaks multiple languages, including Bengali and Spanish. I'm guessing she's often mistaken for Latina as well.

But I digress; the beautiful Tiya had the misfortune to portray Aimee in three episodes from the second season of TVD.  She's another partying teen from Mystic Falls who sounds more Californian than Southern.

She initially has a thing for the human Matt, which annoys the vampire Caroline.  Caroline uses vampire compulsion to make Aimee go after the werewolf Tyler, but once the compulsion wears off, Aimee stops Tyler in mid-make out.  Since Tyler is portrayed by stunning Mexican-American actor Michael Trevino, I'm wondering what crack the writers were smoking because no straight woman in her right mind would pass him up.

Aimee's not a major character, so there's little more to say about her.  She's just another citizen of Mystic Falls.

Which brings us to the dead Negro portion of the post (and the total Asian death toll to three in three years, with no replacements so far).

The vampire Stefan is trying negotiate with a particularly hostile vampire Katherine at a masquerade ball.  To get Stefan to shut up and do what she wants, Katherine shows him that the world is her playground and she will kill anyone and everyone to make him cooperate.

Guess who just happens to show up during their conversation and help Katherine make her point?

Pretending to help with a necklace clasp.
Paralyzing her from the waist.
RIP Aimee
Keep in mind, this happens during a ball.  This girl's spine is snapped at a ball right on the dance floor...and no one even notices.

  3. Exactly why do black folks like this show again?

    1. Neo says the ratings are steadily dropping for this show. I wouldn't be surprised if this had something to do with it.

I only know one black person who likes this show, and she's there strictly for Bonnie. However, even she's said to me recently that she's not sure how much more bullshyt she can stand.

  4. Wow. I must have missed this. But not only do we have another Asian woman down but no one even notices when she's being killed. Fuck. And of course who would want Matt over Tyler? But it's still messed up. Cause under compulsion that situation could have gotten rapey really fast. This show is not subtle with it's hatred for POC. Trevino only makes it b/c he can pass for white non-hispanic. No one would know he's Mexican. But sometimes even passing is not enough if you're black, as evidenced by that Melissa character on the Secret Circle.

Oh trust me in recent years his character has been just as mistreated as the others starting with them sending him off the show for long periods of time doing werewolf things which we don't really know what are, but at least it amounted to something unlike what they did with Bonnie with him being the alpha of a pack (that he quickly loses). Then they insert Klaus which starts him off as being his slave through a sire bond which he breaks, but at the price of his mom, girl, and entire pack he tried to help (thanks Hayley). Then his character has no direction beyond a half-assed romance which ends in her death and then he only comes around when they need his help (sound familiar). Everything just gets so much worse when he dies because literally no one cared, I mean they had a funeral, but no one held the person who did it accountable because guess who did it? Damon, and not only did Damon kill him but it was in a scene that pointlessly killed him by a Damon who had his free will at the moment so "I was forced" wasn't even an excuse. They tried to make it seem like they cared by saying "no one will ever forgive you for this Damon" but everyone immediately forgives him including Bonnie and everyone basically forgets he died.

Tyler may have gotten better treatment because he could pass as white, but it definitely wasn't equal to the treatment of the white characters which just shows how even more screwed up the entire show was.

    1. Exactly. I keep thinking that at some point, Ankh will run out of dead Negros. But each week she churns out another one and I get more and more irritated.

  7. I'm glad someone mentioned the Secret Circle. Is it just me or did anyone else notices that on the Vampire Diaries most, if not all, of the witches, warlocks, were black or PoC. The Bennetts dating back to the Salem Witch trials. Then we have the Secret Circle spin off and all of a sudden most of the witches, warlocks, are white now that they are the center of the storyline.

Then the one ambiguous PoC is going through a lot of trouble that she can not handle on her own (losing boyfriend, drugs), while the rest of the witches can handle their problems. Also from what I know, hers is the only parents that have not been really explaned as to what happened "that night" (not plot spoiler intended) or if they are both alive or one of them is. She is portrayed to me as the witch to be ridiculed, ignored, bullied, pitied and oversexed with little results or failed results (boyfriend skirts issue of relationship and then is killed). Sorry for the over analysis.

Ever since I found out that Book Version!Bonnie was a very pale red-haired white girl, I've had my eyebrow raised at the TV series' casting. At first, I thought it was for the same reason Pete was black in Smallville - to have a token POC character in an otherwise lily-white universe so that critics wouldn't have anything to say regarding the lack of colour.

Having seen how many POC get killed on this show, included members of Bonnie's family, I'm wondering even more why they bothered to melaninate(my word) the character of Bonnie. Cuz if this is how they show how progressive and inclusive they are....

  9. You know a very short news clips of random people dying or even a small search would be considerate but then again this is just echoing real life innit.
