Underappreciated Actress of Color #53: Blair Wingo

Any Malcolm in the Middle fans in attendance?  'Cause that's where I first saw her!

I first saw singer/actress/Christian spoken word artist Blair Wingo on the episode where Francis hops a ride with a bus full of visiting African students (I don't think the country was ever specified).  She was just so mind-numbingly beautiful I had to do more research.

She hasn't been in as much as she should be, all for the usual reasons.  She's Black, she wears her hair naturally, she's Black, she's devout about being creative and expressing that creativity, she's Black, and she's seriously easy on the eyes.  As out fellow bar patron Nicthommi would agree, we can't have too many beautiful Black women running around Hollywhite.  Tends to screw with the agenda.

From Malcolm in the Middle:

Wingo is currently married to rapper and fellow devout Christian Shai Linne.

  1. I would pay SERIOUS LOOT for a pair of lips like that. Man, she's spectacular.

    Nicthommi is absolutely right.

  2. I remember this episode. I was so surprised to see a deep brown skinned woman as a love interest on that show. She is beautiful!

Now speaking as an asthmatic: It seems like every time a nerd is portrayed on television he's pegged as oxygen-challenged. I take Advair 500/50 and Proair as an inhaler. I also have a breathing machine with a supply of albuterol for emergencies. I take it often because my asthma can be severe at times. However, never have I spoken in such a fashion; even when on Prednisone (a synthetic corticosteroid) during severe bouts. This young man would have to be traveling with a breathing machine in his lap with symptoms like that.

The same goes for Doug’s cousin (Danny Heffernan) on the sitcom King of Queens when he has an attack. His labored breathing is so funny to watch. (scroll to 1:42) So please forgive my jab at the young man. Meant.... no.... harm.

  14. I'm sorry for the anonymous comment, but it wouldn't let me enter my name (Karen). I'm just sitting here watching the episode now on TeenNick (the African country is Mozambique, btw), and I just had to find out who this gorgeous creature is! I'm a hetero female, but such abject beauty as hers can surely be appreciated by all. And I find out that she is a sister in Christ to boot! What could be better? Well, I guess the fact that she is also a talented poet too! Well done, Blair! :)
