Underappreciated Actress of Color #48: Julia Pace Mitchell

Children...bow your heads and raise your hands in supplication as we speak the Dark Chocolate Prayer.

"Gods, have mercy upon unworthy pygmies.  May we forever get to bask in the glory of divine specimens such as Miss Thang right here."

Can I get an 'Amen'?

Fans' treatment of Julia Pace Mitchell is seriously pissing me off right now.  Start typing her name into Google right now and right after name is her is name again plus "weight gain."

Negro, seriously?  We're seriously caring about it that much?  This is a luscious, resplendent, voluptuous gift straight from the gods - say "thank you", children, and just be grateful, goddamn it!!!

*shakes head* Americans....

I'm watchin' the NAACP Awards right now and I'll be honest...I didn't know her.  But it was love at first sight, lemme tell you...she has an enviable rack and the skin of a goddess.  Her face is purely angelic.  I can't wait to get on Netflix and order a bunch of her work.  This is my girl.  This is my beautiful, beautiful girl, and all her haters can just keep on hatin'.  Sit in front of your mirrors and wish this was you, bitches....

In addition to her website, fans can keep up with Julia on her YouTube Channel.

Want to be successful in a white dominated entertainment industry? Lose the weight. We might not be able to do anything about your skin color, “that wasn’t your fault” as Archie Bunker suggests. But you could stand to lose a few pounds. Unless of course you're cast as the overweight, a-sexual… sassy sidekick typical of mainstream movies and sitcoms; then you're perfect for the part.

Its another way in which whites try to control how we 'should look and act in their eyes' in their eyes; another means of control. In this regard thank God for Tyler Perry; for he employs actresses of all shapes and sizes.

Absolutely. I do dig that about him and I feel that's also contributed to his success. He knows what black people want to see in terms of hair, complexion, size, and socioeconomic status, the best example of this being the Why Did I Get Married? movies.

I agree. Tyler has a knack for casting actors that look like us... normal black people. Not some exotic fair-skinned template for color-shy white audiences; but real-life representations of black folk. The average American woman wears a size 14. An archetype that's very hard to find in white science fiction or romantic comedy.

Check out her other site.. I hope she reads it before she gets married to that money hungry man. Middletown men are not good.. Better shop around my friend.. less than 5 months to get to know someone is not enough..
