Contemplating "Julie Powers Schenecker"

From Max Read:
Scheneker was apparently depressed. She'd written an email to her mother the week before, complaining of depression and trouble with the kids. She was nonetheless able to purchase a gun that same week, intending to kill her 13-year-old son and 16-year-old daughter and then herself. On Thursday, she shot her son, Powers Beau Schenecker, in the car on the way home from soccer practice; she then shot her daughter Calyx while she was doing her homework in her room.

The next morning, police, who had been contacted by Schenecker's mother, found her at her house, still wearing her blood-stained clothing. She told them she killed her son "for talking back to her" in the car. In custody, she "shook uncontrollably" and "mumbled to herself."

This isn't the first time this year someone who shouldn't have been in possession of a firearm was able to obtain one without any trouble. But please, don't politicize this tragedy, which has nothing to do with how absurdly easy it is for people to purchase guns in this country, or the frustratingly small number of people with serious depression or other mental illness who receive appropriate or adequate treatment. No, it's an isolated incident. Just like the rest of them
.
I'm not going to give my own commentary on this little development. I'm a horrible human being. Because when Field Negro wrote "Spare the .38, spoil the child," I honestly couldn't stop laughing my ass off.

Ergo, no commentary on this from Moi.

  1. Ummm... as a tax-paying Floridian, can I vote that we take her ass off suicide watch and let nature take its course? Please? Thanks.

  2. I maintain she's not crazy. Nor was Jared Lee Loughner.

I also maintain this story will amuse me well into my old age. This woman capped her children. Kids who think they can just play the minor card and kill their parents need to know their parents may very well kill them first.

  3. "But please don't politicize this tragedy."

this is definitely a tragedy. but if she were black this would be totally racially politicized & all over the popular media.

i enjoy reading the field negro, but his comments section is total horror.

Max Read wrote the excerpt, not Field Negro, and this part:

is meant in sarcasm. I initially made the same mistake.

  6. Just another case of Whites reaping what they sow.

Ankh, I agree that this White Woman wasn't "crazy." Too often are WP "diagnosed" with various mental diseases to make them seem like the real victims. Sometimes, people are just... bad. (Well, White People are quite often bad.) Also, Whites are weak. They don't know suffering like POC do. If WP had to put up with half of what POC put up with every day of their lives, each and every one of them would be "depressed" by today's medical standards. Everyone has bad days. Just, please control yourselves. *eyeroll*

    Some "tragedy," haha.

  10. The only time I believe the mental illness defense as it relates to someone killing their own children is when it is related to post partum psychosis OR if they person has been diagnosed as schizophrenic with a proven history of hallucinations and delusions. Simple depression is not a reason to kill anyone, but there are some cases, particularly shortly after the birth of a child when people sincerely have lost all touch with reality. They need to spend the rest of their lives in a hospital though, not be set free to do something like this again.

  11. You know what? Julie Schenecker is a G. Yeah, I said.

Not only is she not blaming some imaginary POC, she's not blaming mental illness. When asked why she shot her kids, she was straight-up: they were being mouthy.

Once again, America doesn't want to admit that regular, everyday people are like this. They do this. They think this. They want this.
