"The People Formerly Known as Niggers"

If there were ever an argument to convince me....

Get to know poet Julian Curry.

  1. Wow... powerfully to the point! I will be forwarding this one and adding it to my page.

    Love your blog Ankhensen!!!

Thank you for posting this! I really enjoyed it.

  3. Thank Goodness! I've had so many people look @ me like I'm a pblm child because I take offense to that word. I knew my Grandparents and Great Grandmother.

All her children are still alive (except my Gran and her brother). They are my living breathing proof of this word, its origins and the terror associated with it.

I will never accept it for anything other than what it is.

  4. Excellent and yes I am definitely sharing this with others. We are in some serious times right now and folks need to start figuring that out. Thank you for posting this.

  5. excellent poem. People need to stop rolling around in and promoting black pathology. It is literally killing us.

  6. When the poet takes on the voice of the chained and murdered, it tugs at my heart.

  7. I've seen this before and it's apart of my Utube favorites. Each one, reach one, teach one. I wish it was this simple. I know I don't use the word and will teach my children, the history behind the word so that they won't want to use it either. They are ages 4yrs and 1yrs, AA males.
