Underappreciated Actress of Color #36: Navi Rawat

Damn...I'm surprised it took me so long to get to this chica right here.

*smacks self*

Is she smokin' or is she smokin'?  Born Navlata Rawat, Miss Thang here is a 32-year-old actress of Rajput Indian descent.  I first fell for her in the Angel episode "Damage" where she played Dana, the "Psycho Slayer".  Unbeknownst to me, I'd already seen her in House of Sand and Fog.

She's worked hard and tried to stay busy, but that list needs to be longer.  With her racially ambiguous looks and undeniable talent, she should landing roles left and right.  Hell...fans no doubt recognize her as Theresa Diaz from The OC, Amita Ramanujan from Numb3rs and, of course, Janis's girlfriend Maya from FlashForward.

Diaz?  Ramanujan?  Maya?

...See what I mean?

  1. OMG I cannot believe Slayer Dana was a WOC - for serious, I could barely make out her face in that episode. She was so often covered by her hair when she went all aggressive-bitch on everybody and then struggling and the fightin' made it hard to see her.

(Plus, you know, the ever-present dark rooms and shadows all around in Angel-world don't make seeing faces easier.)

    How cool!

  2. Ain't it?

Course I pegged her from a mile away.

  3. I watched her in Numb3rs. She was really sweet. I hope she'll get more acting opportunities.
