Contemplating "Diversity of Opinion"

Why is it that the people who are most likely to invoke the "diversity of opinion" defense are usually opining against diversity?

  1. Good point. If it's not a rhetorical question, or even if it is, I'm pretty tempted to give this answer: "Because they're fucking stupid." Or, if I'm in a better mood on another day I would answer, "Because they like to keep things simple. Way, way too simple." Or, if I'm feeling more thoughtful, "Because, in their defense at just about any cost of their own narrow, selfish interests, they lose sight of, and often can't even comprehend, irony."

  2. All three are fine by me.
